Yahoo DSP placements, tied to the conversions

The Yahoo DSP template captures the order, placement, library ad, trafficked ad and publisher IDs, plus Yahoo's click ID in vmcid. Yahoo DSP has no postback URL, so conversions reach Yahoo through its Dot tag on your pages or its Conversion API, called from your own server.

Programmatic inventory, judged on conversions

Block or bid up inventory

Publisher ID and Placement ID land in their own columns, so you see where your Yahoo DSP traffic converts and adjust the inventory you buy.

Compare creatives

Library Ad ID and Trafficked Ad ID let you compare ads side by side, and Order ID separates every order in one traffic source.

Click IDs ready for Yahoo

ClickFlare stores each vmcid and passes it to your lander, so the Dot tag or your own Conversion API service can credit the click.

How vmcid travels from Yahoo to your lander

Yahoo DSP opens your campaign URL with its IDs and the click ID in vmcid. ClickFlare stores vmcid as the External ID and passes it to your lander. The Dot tag there stores it, and Yahoo credits the conversion when the Dot tag or Conversion API reports it.
  • Add vmcid={external_id} to your lander URL
  • Dot tag keeps the click ID up to 7 days
  • Conversion API events can be up to 30 days old

Connected in four steps

You need a Yahoo DSP seat with Enhanced Attribution on, the Yahoo Dot tag on your lander, your own tracking domain and an offer in ClickFlare.
  1. Turn on Enhanced Attribution In Yahoo DSP, open Advertiser Properties and click Enable enhanced attribution. Without it, Yahoo doesn't fill the ${CC} click ID macro.
  2. Add the Yahoo DSP traffic source In the campaign editor, click + New Traffic Source and pick the Yahoo DSP template. Keep vmcid as the click ID parameter and leave the postback off.
  3. Pass vmcid to your lander Add vmcid={external_id} to your lander URL in ClickFlare. Set a CPC cost model, add your offer and copy the campaign URL from your own domain.
  4. Set the URL in Yahoo DSP and test Use the campaign URL as the ad's landing page URL, with only one ?. Open it with vmcid=test123 and check the External ID and the lander's address bar.

Don't paste a Yahoo Dot pixel URL into the postback field. A server request carries none of the visitor's cookies, so Yahoo can't attribute it.

How media buyers run it

Yahoo DSP native → your store

Native to your own store

Fire a Dot conversion on the thank-you page and compare placements by revenue in ClickFlare.
Yahoo DSP display → lander → offer

Display to affiliate offers

The Dot tag can't see the offer's page, so send conversions through your own Conversion API service.
Yahoo DSP video → article → RSOC

Video to RSOC article

ClickFlare records late revenue, and your API service can pass it to Yahoo within 30 days.
